4 Quick Tips to Improve Time Management for Students (Guest Post)

By Pedro

Estimated Reading time: 8 minutes

The school year begins in August for most students. Each student anticipating doing better this year, because last years’ grades… well they told a different story.

With roughly 2 million blogs being posted a day, we search for a remedy to help us take control of our academic lives. There are countless articles focused on creating schedules, utilizing agendas or resting 8 hours a day (with college schedules, this one can prove more difficult).

These sites fail to tell us occasionally that most time management tips only work for disciplined folks; their listed steps are hard pills to swallow for easily distracted students like us.

I will share 4 tips for those who cannot operate an agenda and tend to wake up in the morning with no clue of ‘where to start.’

Step 1 | Mute Social Media

Ever woke up in the morning felling groggy (not froggy)? Your plush bed feels like heaven and you are still tired.

I can’t blame you, because I have been in that position too. I sluggishly try to climb out of my bed, so I start swiping through Instagram for an energy boost.

Then, before I know it an hour has passed, I am more exhausted than when I woke up. Now I am mentally exhausted, but physically awake.

When you wake up to browse social media, you open your mind to potentially receiving negative information, before your natural willpower has time to charge up. This could alter your mood for the entire day, sabotaging your productivity.

Furthermore, avoid using social media when you are focused on completing tasks. It is one of the most distracting platforms that can hinder your results.

According to study done by EAB, at-least 70% of students use their phones in the classroom for social media purposes.

Mute your social media notifications before bedtime or anytime you intend to be productive. The less distracted you are, the more equipped you will be to remain focus on tasks and have them completed.

Step 2 | Take Measured Breaks

Ever had a study buddy who appeared to study forever? You think to yourself, “if I don’t study as long as she does, I will fail my exam.” So now you are studying at her pace, but you are retaining less information.

As you start to compare your study habits to a friend, any information you would have retained starts to fizzle away, your brain is frying.

Remember we all learn and study differently. Sure, there are study habits you want to adopt, but ensure it is within reason.

Set 5, 10, 20- or 30-minute breaks throughout your study session.

Listen to music or watch a funny video to alleviate stress. Mediate or nap to refresh your brain. Converse with a friend or study partner to take a mental break. Just remember this is a study break, so do not extend it for hours, it will be a tedious task to resume where you left off.

Step 3 | Learn to say No

You and I both know college is for the “college experience.” However, what is important to you will determine your actual college experience. Will you go to every party for the term, or will you ditch your friends and study?

Do not get me wrong, go out and some have fun. However, if you have multiple college friends and they all insist that you join them one weekend or the other, learn to say no.

If you accept every invitation, you may find yourself burnt out, hungover and high from the party life. Then, every college assignment and upcoming test will feel like the greatest burden on your shoulders.

“Why did I choose to go back to school after escaping high school? Why oh why?”

Remember, saying no does not describe you as a party pooper, or being ‘lame’. If you struggle with peer pressure, reassure yourself that saying no this time will save you from poor grades, additional stress and unnecessarily dreadful hangovers for tomorrow’s 8 am class.

Step 4| Find a study spot

Ever decided to study in your bedroom, for convenience?

Studying in the bedroom is like flashing your wallet/purse in a dark alleyway with a bullseye on your back; you are waiting to be robbed. Point blank; ‘periodt.’

Best advice, finding the right study spot where you can study proactively.

For the rare unicorns who have mastered this atrocity, hats off to them. To all whom I am advising, stay away. If your main goal is to study for that exam or complete a 10-page essay, avoid the bedroom at all cost.

Here are some common mistakes you will make if you study in the bedroom:

  • You will fall asleep without knowing it
  • You will decide to binge watch the newest season of Stranger Things
  • You will accept spontaneous invitations with little consideration
  • You will become more easily distracted by anything

Bonus

Ever searched google in high hopes to discover a remedy to help you remain organize and take control of your time. However, you realize you are a unique person and these lists do not directly apply to you?

Seek help, mentorship or allow a close friend to hold you accountable. Having someone else watching your back is essential, because now you are not only letting yourself down, but the person willing to help you (I hope you don’t look forward to letting someone down).

Are there any tips and tricks that I am missing? Share them down below, let us help one another manage our time while we improve on our self-development.

How To Make Money Off Of Ads (Guest Post)

Making money is an essential part of any blog that you hope to live on one day. Unless your an ecommerce store, or a donation page website then Ads are going to be your best shot at making that living.

How To Make Money Off Of Ads

We are going to be discussing 3 Topics:

  1. Traffic, & Visits
  2. Ad Provider
  3. The Value Of A U.S View

Traffic, & Visits

The main way to make money off of your ads is traffic, & visits. You need traffic, and you need visits to get those impressions, and clicks you need.

The best ways to increase your traffic are simple: Post frequently, and have a posting schedule. Getting your blog on schedule helps SEO (Site Engine Optimization) which helps you to get views.

Gain Keywords. You need keywords to be indexed by Google. However you can only get keywords for every article you post if you have a paid site plan. (NOTE: If your hosting with WordPress that plan is $300 a year. The “Buisness Plan”)

Use Ads. There’s Google Adsense, Microsoft Ads (Formerly Bing Ads), Facebook Ads, Twitter Ads, Pretty every single social media has their own ad platform. (Except for Instagram, which is owned by Facebook, and uses their Ad platform). I’ve had the best (Read: I’ve payed the least, and gotten the best results) with Facebook Ads. However you could pay up to $0.30 every time someone visits your site.

Gain traction in the Blogosphere. Read another bloggers posts, leave thoughtful comments, and expose yourself to them. Don’t bother them and leave links to your site in the comment section, don’t follow them so they’ll follow you, and don’t spam like them. That’s the wrong kind of exposure. It’s annoying too. This one is the cheapest, and easiest. Just be an active blogger, and be an active subscriber, and fan.

Ad Provider

Let’s list off some things you’ll need to know first.

CPC: Cost-Per-Click. How Much you get paid every time someone clicks an ad on your site. Pays higher than CPM.

CPM: Cost-Per-Impression. How Much You Get Paid Every Time Someone Views an ad on your site. Pays dramatically lower than CPC.

Ok. Understand?

To make sure you get the most money with your ads you’ll need the best Ad Provider. Such as Google Ads, Infolinks Media.net, and WordAds if you’re a WordPress User, and so on. The best ad provider is the simplest one, and the one that pays you the most.

Please Note: It may take 3-6 weeks before you start to profit with your ads. It takes time for them to integrate with your site, and make you a profit. So it may take up to a year to find your perfect Ad Provider.

Most people automatically want to go with Google Ads, cause Google. I’ll admit it: Google Adsense pays higher. But they are way too stressful, and complicated. Not to mention the fact that they regularly boot sites from their program. Its one big headache that I would just avoid.

Your goal is to find the easiest Ad Provider that pays the most. Some ad providers pay you by only CPM. Meaning that if someone clicks on your Ad you won’t get paid extra, but you do get paid more for people just simply seeing your ad. Some pay only by CPC, which is only good for you if your site gets about at least 2, 3, 4, or 5,000 views per day, because clicks can be sparce. (It all depends on how engaging your visitors are) A majority however pay by both CPC, and CPM.

The 2 I’ve had the best experience with are WordAds, and Infolinks. But Media.net was the easiest, and simplest. And if your not a Jetpack WordPress user then WordAds aren’t an option.

(Tip: A lot of major sites use up to 3, or even 5 different ad providers. But generally 1, or 2 Ad Providers will make up a majority of their income)

The Value Of A U.S View

Well it’s more the Value of a U.S, U.K, and Canadian view. Clicks, and Impressions from these countries–especially the U.S–are worth more, and hence pay more. Its because a lot of Ads are e-commerce companies that don’t ship to India, and China, and so on.

However there is a value to a view from India. Aka, the cheapest place to get views from.

(Please Note: This may affect your ad revenue negatively)

If you just want views well then do I have news for you! If your ads (FB ads, Microsoft Ads, etc.) Are set specifically for India then you may only pay 0.03-0.06 per click. That’s 1650-3,300 views per $100 USD. However like I said in that Note this may hurt your ad revenue as Frankly ads from those countries are worthless to major Ad companies, and if they see India as your main source of traffic they MAY just automatically reduce your CPC, and CPM. Sorry.

How To Get More Likes On Your Posts

Be Active- If you want people to leave you likes on your blog then you need to be active enough on their blog that they’ll notice you and go back to your blog to repay the favour. As I always say WordPress is a two way street and you cannot expect people to like your posts if you don’t do the same. For the full post on how to be active on other peoples blog click here.

Optimum timings- You may not be getting the amount of likes you deserve by posting/publishing at the wrong timings. By publishing at the optimum time you will not only get more likes but more follows and activity in general. For the full post on how to figure out your optimum time click here.

Creativity Is Important- Make sure your post is creative and fun to read- preferably with a catchy title so that the reader will want to leave a like. No one wants to leave a like on a badly edited post or a post they don’t find interesting. For the full post on how to find the perfect title for your posts click here.

Have Fun– At the end of the day don’t get too obsessed with stats or how many likes you get. I genuinely think that of you write from the heart and enjoy what you’re doing your audience will see and appreciate that and you’ll get more likes anyway. Don’t over think it- just have fun and do your thing!

Struggling To Get Likes On Your Posts? Read This

It isn’t always easy to get likes on your posts especially when you first start out blogging. I remember when I was just starting out and wasn’t getting any likes for the posts I was publishing.

I also remember the very first like I got and how amazing it felt. It felt amazing to know that someone had read my post and enjoyed it enough to take the time to give it a like. I even remember the blogger because I immediately went to their page!

Although likes aren’t important to everyone and some people argue that activity on your blog is more important than likes you have to admit it’s a great feeling when you get the notification that someone just liked one of your posts.

Plus, if you want to blog professionally or as a full time job then sponsors do tend to check how many likes you get per post.

3 Tips To Blog Better (Guest Post)

By Caden738

Perfection is simply impossible. There will always be problems. Hence there will always be a
better. Meaning that every blog could use three 3 tips to get just a little bit better. Because while
perfection may be impossible it never hurts to try.

1. Interact With Your Audience

Someone is more likely to return to your blog if you–personally–interact with them, when
possible. This means responding to their comments, making polls they can vote on, and even
using a one-on-one writing style.

Don’t just list facts, stats, and whatever else in your articles but actually interact with your readers. Talk to your readers in a fun, charismatic that’s gonna make them happy. Heck, try out some humor, and jokes. Talk to your audience as if your talking to a person sitting across from you at a dinner table.

This is a test for Spam-likers, and Spam-commenters. Please do not like this post, and please do
not comment. Anyone that does is a spammer. Thank You.

By following this writing-style, and interacting with your audience in these ways they are more
likely to return. Making your blog better in Stats, and audience interaction.

2. Easy & Accessible

When I first started blogging on my site theh2digroup.com I must have had 23, or 25 categories.
I just created more, and more categories all the time. I would generally create categories such as
‘Cats’ and then never post there again.

Can you imagine how unorganized my site was? It was just a mash-up of so many different
things that after a month or two It wasn’t apparent what my site was about. Which made is harder for me to connect with my audience.

Not to mention the fact that it made it harder for my audience to find the articles they were
looking for, so they gave up, and left. I lost countless views because my site wasn’t easy, and
accessible.

Again please note that this is a test. Please Do not like, or comment. We are testing the waters for
spammers. Thanks For Your Cooperation.

Making your site easy and accessible is easy. Just simply limit your categories, and have a
simple homepage where all of your articles are shown.

3. Care About Your Site

You can’t make something good, profitable, and amazing if you don’t care about it. If you don’t
care about your current site than find something you do care about, and maybe transition your
current site into something that you do care about.

For example let’s say you hate cats, but love dogs. However you notice that cat websites have
more profitable. So you start a website for cats. I say who cares about profit if your unhappy?Change the site to dogs, and BOOM your happier. Just. Like. That.

Lastly please allow me to remind you one more time: This is a test. Do not like, or comment.
Anyone that does is a spammer. Thanks.
