Life Update #3: I Did A Thing…

I thought I would do another little update and let you guys know what’s going on with me at the moment. To be fully honest not too much has changed because of everything that’s still going on. I was kind of hoping the pandemic would be over by now but obviously that is still going on. I hope everyone is trying really hard to stay safe and following the rules because you are not only putting yourself in danger but others too when you refuse to follow the rules. It may seem like everything is back to normal because everything is opening up but it’s not. A blogger I really enjoy wrote an awesome post about this that you can check out by clicking here.

One of the best things I’ve been doing is start learning German again. I’ve been using the Duolingo app and it’s going really well. The last update I did I was on a 52 day streak but unfortunately I lost that streak which seriously hurt but I am back at it again practicing every day. I finished basics and level 1 which is amazing and I am super proud of myself for sticking with it this time.

I have been cooking more and trying to make new recipes at least once a week. Almost everything has turned out well so far and I will be publishing another What I Eat In A Day post soon. Most of the new food I’ve tried is Korean and I think one or two things were Indian. I’m just super into Korean food at the moment and the flavours are kind of perfect for my taste.

As you can tell from the title I also did something new! A while ago I did a throwback post and it reminded me how much I love art. Unfortunately, all my art supplies are in Kenya and I’m in Canada at the moment so I decided to start doing some online artwork on an app called Paint.Book .

It’s been really fun and relaxing. I’ve heard a lot of people saying how beneficial art if for anxiety and I kind of understand now. I will be doing a full review on that for one of my mental health posts but in a nutshell it’s super calming and I will be doing more art for sure. The app turns it into a video for you so I thought I would share some of my favourite with you guys:

I hope you guys enjoyed that little update! What have you guys been up to lately? Is there anything new with you? Have your schools/universities/colleges reopened? Let me know in the comments below!

  1. ‪Me too!! I’ve been using duo lingo app to learn more languages. So far I’m working on French. And art used to be my anxiety outlet, too. ‬

‪Have you tried just taking some coloring book hardcopy and that stuff? I find those a great way to relax and warmups to create new things yourself😊‬

    1. Ooh French sounds fun! What made you decide to learn French?
I did actually buy an actual colouring book and colour pencils but I misplaced them so I’m currently using my phone till I can find the real thing!

      1. I decided to learn it because of my New Montreal friend. Hehe. But I think the most difficult thing to learn about French apart from the accent is grammar… Basically, the rules make sense but there are always more irregular verbs that have unique conjugations than regular vebs and more exceptions than there are general rules😅

Digital coloring book is cool though!😊‬

  2. Same here! I’ve also been coloring since last month but on a hardcopy because I’ve been anxious. It really helps! 😅 I also plan to share my spreads soon. Btw, the app looks cool! 😍

I’m also currently taking up summer classes. Did you take summer classes too?

    1. Ooh I look forward to seeing yours! Unfortunately I bought a colouring book and then misplaced it so I’m stuck with the app for now. I didn’t take summer classes but I’m taking fall classes.

  3. You live so close to my sister-in-law! She pretty much lives in Toronto and spends 95% of her time in there. My cousin also lives in downtown Toronto but I honestly don’t know what she has been up to. Your apartment looks amazing! I like the idea of digital art…. I used to color things from my phone. I like how yours takes a video of you coloring it which is really neat.

I started writing letters again which is really therapeutic for me. When is your birthday? If you’re cool with it, I can add you to my pen pal mailing list 💌

    1. I actually stay in St. Catharines but I’m in Toronto a lot which is when I get to take cool pictures lol! Yeah I thought the video option was really cool too- I had no idea it had that but it was a nice surprise.

Ooh letter writing sounds fun! My birthday is on April 20th and yes that would be amazing!

  4. I’m glad you’re doing well during the pandemic! Is Duolingo an effective website for learning a new language fluently? I’ve haven’t done much Duolingo before and am trying to figure out whether it’s worth my time.

  5. I love this! Yes I can totally relate. For about a year now I’ve been using a color app called Happy Color, its wonderful. As you said it is very therapeutic, a helpful way to relax and calm the mind.
For a few years I studied Japanese ❤ it was the best thing I had ever done. There was so much I learned and then I stopped. Then a friend told me about Duolingo! I love it! It's a nice way to stay connected to what I have already learned and to learn new words.
Great post! Congratulations on your new artwork! Stay safe ❤

    1. Thank you so much!! I’ll check out the app you mentioned- I’m always looking to try new ones. And yes Duolingo is great whether you’re trying to learn a language or just wanted to practice one you learnt before. Thanks for your comment!

  7. Interesting to see and hear what you’ve been up to Pooj. Lockdown has been extremely productive for me. I have written three books, re-edited and republished two others, and decorated the entire house. I’ve been walking ten kilometres plus every single day and watched the entire twelve series of Spooks plus a few other series and films. No wonder I’m feeling so incredibly knackered!

  8. Your artwork is gorgeous Pooja. I’d love to be able to draw or paint but anything I do looks like a 5-year-olds school painting lol. Korean food sounds interesting and you’ve given me an idea. We tend cook a lot of Indian food too so I need a change. As I’m already medically retired, not much has changed in my life during the pandemic. Now I’m starting to see our roads a clogged again and soon the streets will be ram-packed with people – I kinda liked it nice and quiet.

    1. Thank you so much! Haha we all start out drawing like a 5 yr old but I think we get better over time with practice. Korean food is delicious! Yeah it was peaceful when everything was quiet and people were still.

  9. It’s nice to get a glimpse of what other people are up to. Due to what’s going on a lot of things are really slow and honestly there’s not much going on with me. I miss school so much so I decided to try out new things. That’s why I started a blog, even though I know almost nothing about it.
And I really love your artwork.

    1. Yeah blogging is a good way to spend your free time. I get bored without school as well and I have a hard time spending so much free time but this stuff helps.
      Thank you!!

  10. This was such a fun post I really really loved it!! I’ve been working on my French on Duolingo and losing that streak feels like such a blow … I love your artwork so much! I’ve actually been writing a novel, I recently got two jobs and I’m also doing a lot of blog research at the moment for a potential rebranding so I feel like I’m about to get incredibly busy haha

    1. Thank you! Ooh interesting- what made you decide to start learning French? Losing a streak really hurt for sure.
Thanks the art is so fun!
Wow you are doing a lot of productive stuff. Best of luck with your novel and everything going on!

      1. I actually did French as a subject in high school and I didn’t want to lose all that I’d learnt so I thought Duolingo was a good idea. How are your lessons coming?
        It looks amazing!
Yeah I know but I’m super excited about it all and thank you so much I’ll be sure to keep you updated as things progress xx

  11. Very nice post and beautiful artwork 😊👍 I agree that trying new things and hobbies interesting, fun and relaxing. I really love to read (including audiobooks has been a new thing and I like listening to some inspirational podcasts which is also a new thing I started not too long ago). I restarted creative journaling / scrapbooking which is nice (I had stopped doing it for awhile).

  12. In Florida the schools and universities are still planning to open next month. They are planning to use a hybrid of in-person and online classes with social distancing protocols in place. We will see. Everything is changing daily.
I’m writing a book based on my experiences to teach self-confidence. It keeps me busy. Stay safe.

  13. My life is too busy…. Taking care of my toddler…. Blogging…. Vlogging…. Singing…. Drawing…. But I am so happy to do the things I love…. I have started to assign time for each stuff so that I don’t get messed up…. And I also have stopped multitasking…. It kills my peace of mind…. So now I am experiencing the organized life again…. Happy me….

  15. This is so great and impressive. I wanted to perfect my Spanish during this time. I should really be fluent. So maybe I will kick that into full gear. Please share some of your recipes that you have tried out. Korean and Indian food is on the top of my list of favs.

  16. I’ve been working really hard on my art and making products for the online shop I am planning to open soon and of course, still working on music and recording my songs ♥ Art definitely helps in times like this, to relax and also shift your focus away from the bad news for a while.

  17. Loving the art work 👍😊 Things are relaxing more here in the UK, but I’m being pretty cautious still. This pandemic has changed my life plans. So, I’ve started job hunting now that I’ve decided not to move away. Looking forward to your next recipe 😊

  18. I miss Duolingo streaks!!! I was in competition with my siblings but we have all sorta lost touch with the app. We definitely have to add each other!

I love your Paint Book work! I might have to get that app. Sometimes its hard for me to sit down and actually use my supplies with a little guy running around lol.

    Awesome post!

    1. Yeah it sucks when you lose your streak and it’s actually really hard to get back into it! Yes we should totally add each other- I think it will help motivate us!

Yeah it’s a lot easier to just paint on an app- super fun too!

  19. Aww ! I’ve been so MIA here, but I wanted to say I’m so thankful and grateful that you enjoyed that post so much ❤ Keep me posted on how your German is going, I'm diving into the exciting world of SPANISH so wish me luck I'm quite hopeless when it comes to languages. xo

    1. Thank you so much! I’m always happy to share posts I enjoy! Good luck with your Spanish- it seems like a lot of people are trying to learn Spanish or another language right now which is so awesome.

  20. I started learning Danish last year, and built up a 132 day streak. I was a bit bummed when I let it lapse, but it reminded me what I was actually doing. I am learning a language and learning about another culture, which is very cool, not trying to win a game.

Your efforts at cooking are also inspiring. 🙂 I often struggle to motivate myself to prepare food at home but really enjoy it when I do, especially cooking with others and trying new things.
