How To Make Readers Return To Your Blog
The Importance Of Making Sure Your Readers Keep Coming Back
It’s important to build an audience if you are planning on monetizing your blog, however, the type of audience you build is also very important especially if you are looking for potential sponsors. Having readers that visit your blog consistently is very important because that means you have a loyal following and that will increase your views in the long run. Having readers who visit your blog only once or twice may increase your following but it does little to increase your traffic. Loyal followers increase your traffic in the long run and show your potential sponsors that you have an organic and responsive following. Here are ways to gain an audience that will consistently visit your blog on a regular basis:
Consistency
Consistency is one of the most important things when you are trying to increase your traffic, following or keep readers coming back to your blog. If a reader does not know when you will post next or if your blog is still active it is very likely that they will follow your blog or return to read more of your content. The best way to remain consistent is to schedule your posts for your optimum time and then post at that time every day/every other day/every week. Don’t put out random posts at random times because this will do a lot more damage than good. There is also a huge difference between posting regularly and spamming people with posts so make sure to not spam people either. This is a huge turn off for readers and will likely cause them to unfollow you. For more on how to schedule your post click here. For more on how to find the optimum time to post click here.
Engagement
I have noticed that some people don’t reply to comments or engage with their audience. If you are looking to gain loyal readers than you absolutely need to engage with them. People in general, but especially on WordPress, like to socialise and leave their thoughts about the content and if your reader feels ignored and like their thoughts are not being heard it is unlikely that they will come back to your blog. If you want readers to keep coming back make sure they know that they are heard. Reply to comments and even try conversing with them further- you may not only get a reader who keeps coming back but also a friend! For more information on how to use the comments section to increase your engagement and following click here.
Activity
If you want readers to keep coming back to your blog you need to be as active as possible. Being active is really one of the key ways to grow your blog as well as maintain your audience. Firstly, you need to be active on your own blog as discussed above by posting regularly on schedule and always engaging with your readers in the comments section. Secondly, you have to remember that blogging, like most platforms, is very much a two way street. If you want you readers to keep coming back to your blog you need to do the same and keep going back to their blog. If you see someone liking your post/posts and leaving positive comments/feedback remember to do the same. Leave a like/comment or even share posts of theirs that you enjoyed on your blog. This way you can support each others blog and it’s a win-win for both of you.
Marketing
Marketing is a big part of blogging. If you market your blog correctly you can quickly gain a pretty large and loyal following. I want to make it clear that by marketing your blog I do not mean leaving spam comments on other people’s blogs telling them to check out your blog. Spam comments are very unethical and actually do much more damage than good. There are much more ethical ways to grow your blog and gain an audience that keeps revisiting your blog. One of the easiest ways to do this is to use your tags and categories section correctly. When you use these sections properly you are putting your posts out to a much wider audience. For more on how to use your tags and categories sections correctly click here. If you want me to personally pick out tags/categories for specific posts feel free to contact me. As annoying as social media can sometimes be it can also be a great way to market your blog. The next time you post something on your blog try referring your social media followers to the post by leaving an excerpt and link on your social media accounts. If you do this every time you post something you can get a lot of recurring readers from your social media. Another great way to market your blog is to increase your backlinks. You can do so by guest posting on sites that offer guest posting or by leaving your link on share and promote pages that many sites also offer. This will refer new readers to your blog, give you a better SEO rating and some of these readers will eventually become regulars.
Quality
The quality of your post is incredibly important if you want readers to come back to your site regularly. It is okay to have a typo or some grammar mistakes- that’s quite normal- but if you have horrible grammar, spelling and your posts look unprofessional it is quite unlikely that your reader will come back. If the language you have chosen to write in is not your first language make sure to double check your grammar/spellings/etc. The majority of readers get turned off when there are constant mistakes in your writing and it can actually be quite exhausting to read a post that is full of mistakes. They will likely not revisit your blog or will find a blog which is more well written to read and follow instead. To avoid such errors you can use online resources that help you find spelling and grammar mistakes however be very careful with these because they do tend to sometimes pick up on random things that are not actually errors and not pick up actual errors. Having a human proof read your work is always a better idea. We now offer proofreading and editing services so if you are interested feel free to contact me. If the reader enjoys your writing they will continue to return to your blog to read your posts on a regular basis and you will be able to gain a lot more recurring readers.
Your Thoughts

I use all of the ones you mention. Quality is important for posts and also in comments. Simple comments like great post don’t get my attention but comments that connect to my post do get my attention.
PoojaG
Yeah I agree quality is important for sure.

Totally agree with you on all points. I always delete comments that indicate someone didnโt read a post / just wanted to self-promote (OR depending on my mood, Iโll leave the comment and delete the posterโs link lol)
PoojaG
Lol I edit out the link part as well- it’s a fun little way to show them how annoying spam is! But yeah spam can do a lot more damage than good for your blog.

This is so helpful! I specifically am having a hard time on the Marketing part so I think my blog is growing quite slowly. A huge factor is I’m somehow hesitant and apprehensive to post my blogs on my social media accounts. I think it’s the most important trait I have to practice for my blog’s growth. Thanks for this Pooja! <3
PoojaG
I’m so glad this was helpful! Yeah marketing is definitely a big part of growing your blog. It can be scary to share on social media at first but it definitely helps a lot.
Elle
Can I ask a quick question, Pooja? I will try making a Facebook page to make it more discreet and so that people won’t have to know yet that I write blogs, do you think it’s better? Or do I just share my blogs on my personal account?
PoojaG
No, I would totally recommend making a separate page instead. It is easier to share your stuff there than on your personal page. All of my pages for my blog are separate as well.
Elle
๐๐๐ alright thank you for this pooja! โค I’ll surely check on your page some time ๐โค

Thank you I appreciate that!

Good tips Pooj. I don’t really think about. My blog is just an expression of what I am doing and feeling. I do everything wrong, but it seems to work for me.

These are great tips, Pooja! I struggle with scheduling and marketing, but I am working on getting better at both. I was so excited recently when one of the organizations I marketed a post to pushed it out on all their social media channels. Whenever I get discouraged, I remind myself that blogging is a marathon, not a sprint.
PoojaG
Yes it definitely takes a while to get to your goals but it’s worth the effort!

Great tips Pooja and I tend to follow a few of them. I’m not great at being active due to my physical illness mainly, but sometimes my mental illness too. I tend to post when I feel up to it ๐ I’m not great at marketing but I do love to engage with readers and other bloggers. I think this is most important and fellow-bloggers, ignore this advice at your peril lol.
I’d be interested on your take on my categories and tags, when you get a spare week lol x
PoojaG
Thank you so much! I understand what you mean- it’s difficult to post regularly when you’re having physical or mental problems. However, like you said engagement is a huge part of growing your blog. I would love to help with your tags and categories but could you send me an email about it if possible- it’s easier to help via email than blog.

I’ll be holding onto this one for reference! There are some things I still don’t understand, but I’m learning. One thing I wasn’t clear about. When talking about posting regularly, what is regularly? I try to post every day. I get better results in the morning, so what I really want to do is write a post at night and schedule it to be released the next morning. But if everyday is too much then what? Thanks ๐
PoojaG
Thanks! Once a day is actually the perfect amount- at least in my opinion. And it’s great that you know your optimum time so publishing every morning is a great idea.

This is something that has been on my mind recently. Engaging with other blogs and communicating constructively with readers and other bloggers is so important. I’m trying very much to dive into it because so many people have so much worth saying, both when they post to their blogs and comment and engage with mine.
Thank you for sharing your words ๐
